RULES:

Participation in the competition is open to composers of any nationality and age.

a. Entry compositions must be original and unpublished, harmonisations and arrangements being excluded. Entries must be written for a regular mixed choir SATB a cappella with a reasonable use of divisi. Compositions must be at a technical level that makes its performance possible by an amateur choir, and will have a maximum duration of 5 minutes.

b. The theme should be related to "hope"; a positive message that represents the beginning of a new stage and the end of the complicated months we had to live. The text should be written preferably in Valencian, Spanish, Latin or English. Composers will be responsible for the free use of the texts, and in any case they must respect the authorship rights stipulated in the Spanish Royal Legislative Decree 1/1996 of 12 April on Intellectual Property. The head of the score will include only the title of the piece and a pseudonym of the author.

a. The awards include:

1. • Best composition

     1. 1. A monetary prize of €300.

        2. The premiere of the winning piece.

        3. Furthermore, the Organisation will seek to promote the winning piece, which will include the following subtitle on the cover of the final score, as well as at the header or footer of all pages thereof: Obra ganadora del 3º Concurso de Composición Coral Coro Universitario Sant Yago (“Winning piece of the 3rd Choral Music Composition Competition Sant Yago University Choir”).

• Best composition written in Valencian language

  1. 1. A monetary prize of €100.

     2. The premiere of the winning piece.

     3. Furthermore, the Organisation will seek to promote the winning piece, which will include the following subtitle on the cover of the final score, as well as at the header or footer of all pages thereof: Millor obra en valencià - 3r Concurs de Composició Coral Cor Universitari Sant Yago (Best composition in Valencian language - 3rd Choral Music Composition Competition Sant Yago University Choir).

The awards are compatible with each other.

a. Composers are entitled to submit an unlimited number of unpublished pieces not previously performed in public. Entries must be sent by email to concurso@corosantyago.org with the subject “Participación 3º Concurso Composición Coral”, including two attachments:

1. 1. The score in clear spelling as a PDF file. The pseudonym chosen by the author will appear in the score and in no case the real name.

   2. Audio file in MIDI or MP3.

To guarantee the necessary impartiality and transparency no type of personal data should be included in the body of the email.

Participants will submit only one piece per email, though they can send as many emails as works they want to present.

The Organisation will answer the emails within a period of 72 hours in order to confirm the correct reception thereof.

b. All entry compositions must be received by 31 August 2021, 23.59 (Central European Time).

a. An evaluation commission, comprised of people linked to the Valencian choir world, will preselect up to a maximum of 10 compositions. This set of finalists will then be assessed by the members of the Sant Yago University Choir, who will jointly choose the winner, advised by the evaluation commission. Exceptionally, an honorable mention with no related monetary prize may be conferred to one or more compositions, if appropriate. Decisions will be final.

b. The results of the contest will be first announced to the winner per email to the account from which the piece was submitted. This communication will take place between 1 and 15 October 2021. After the communication of the results, the winner will send per email his or her personal data to the Organisation before 31 October. In case the Organisation does not receive the requested information within said period, the winner will lose the rights related to the prize, and the contest will end with no winner.

Once the identity of the winner is known by the Organisation, the results of the contest will be announced on the website www.corosantyago.org and in the social networks of the Sant Yago University Choir.

In case the jury decides that no received work deserves the prize, the contest will end with no winner.

a. The winner of the competition and the recipient of the honorable mention, if one is conferred, authorise the Sant Yago University Choir to perform the awarded compositions, as well as to disseminate said compositions on the Internet.

b. The winner of the competition and the recipient of the honorable mention will transfer the exploitation rights (reproduction, distribution, public communication, transformation and making available) of said compositions to the Sant Yago University Choir. The assignment of these rights is not exclusive.

a. The Organisation will eliminate/destroy all documentation related to the non-winning entry compositions within a maximum period of one month from the publication of the results.
